Announcing the USP Scholars Program!
After two years of planning, the Patterson School recently received approval to implement a University Scholars Program (USP) in conjunction with the BA in International Studies program. The University Scholars Program offers highly motivated students the opportunity to integrate their undergraduate and graduate courses of study into a single continuous program culminating in both a baccalaureate and a master's degree.
Students apply to the USP with Patterson at the end of their junior year. If admission is granted, the student will be classified as a University Scholars student during their senior year. Up to 9 credit hours will be shared between their BA and MA degrees, resulting in their Patterson School degree being completed in just 12 months after their BA.
This is a great opportunity for students interested in pursuing a graduate degree and provides a new pipeline of applicants to the Patterson School. We look forward to foraging additional USPs across campus.
Jack Dugan is our first University Scholars student! So far, he has completed three years at UK where he's focused heavily on both international studies and history.
In the USP, Jack hopes to use the resources of Patterson to enhance his knowledge of international studies/relations and gain more academic experience. He is excited to be facing new challenges and tackling graduate-level work as an undergraduate. He also looks forward to meeting new people and getting to know new professors.
After receiving his BA in International Studies and MA in Diplomacy, Jack hopes to pursue a job in either an NGO or in government. He's especially interested in a position with the U.S. government or UN.
