Faculty Spotlight: Dr. John Charalambakis
Dr. John Charalambakis is the Managing Director for the BlackSummit Financial Group Inc. He advises organizations, corporations, families, non-profits and government entities operating in several countries. His knowledge has resulted in him assisting the Congressional Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission with research on the causes of the financial crisis.
In his most recent book, The Canon of the Markets: Reflections from the Attic of History, Philosophy, Literature, and Statecraft, Dr. Charalambakis integrates various aspects to make recommendations for a post-COVID-19 financial world. Before coming to the Patterson School to teach economics in 2011, he was a professor in the School of Business at Asbury University from 1996 to 2007.
As the summer economics boot camp instructor for the Patterson School, Dr. Charalambakis surveys some of the leading issues in contemporary micro- and macroeconomics. The course helps students identify the key components of economic policies that affect the trajectories of nations, institutions, and corporations.
He enjoys teaching in a Socratic method and the small class sizes at the Patterson School provide a great environment. This method also works well with the various experiences and viewpoints of the cohorts within the Patterson School. Students feel it helps them think outside of the box.
Dr. Charalambakis says he has enjoyed his time at Patterson. He believes that the Patterson School's curriculum, real world opportunities to interact with business and government officials, and the commitment of the professors are transformative to the students.
Dr. Charalambakis’ ties to the Patterson School run deep with his son, Joel Charalambakis, who graduated from the program in 2010. His son works alongside him at BlackSummit Financial Group Inc.
