Zoom US-China Nuclear Competition and Implications for International Security Lecture

Dr. Tong Zhao, Senior Fellow in the Nuclear Policy Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and currently a visiting research scholar at Princeton University’s Science and Global Security Program, will give a talk on the growing political obstacles that drive the U.S.-China nuclear escalation and offer thoughts on potential mitigating measures to maintain nuclear stability.

Meet Ibeth Morales, '21 Alum

Ibeth Morales, known affectionately by staff and classmates as "Iby", is originally from Panama. She first came to the United States on a scholarship to attend Midway University for her undergraduate studies. Her bachelor’s degree was in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting and a minor in Psychology.

Fall Conference 2022 Keynote Address: Ambassador William B. Taylor

The theme of this year's Fall Conference was "The New Cold War." On October 27, Ambassador William B. Taylor gave the keynote address on "Russia, Ukraine, and the United States" in the William T. Young Library Auditorium. A great variety of campus members attended the address.

Spring 2022 Crisis Simulation Exercise

The Spring 2022 Crisis Simulation, held on February 25th and 26th, put students in the role of policymakers in the United States and Latin America, as a migration crisis along the Venezuela-Peru border threatened to destabilize the region. Students played the role of diplomatic, intelligence, and military professionals conducting multilateral negotiations to ameliorate or resolve the crisis.

Meet Julia Dzingailo, 2009 Alum

My interest in other countries and cultures brought me to Belarus' leading linguistic university where I obtained a bachelors degree in English and German. After teaching English there for several years, my career set off in a new direction when I became a program assistant in the International Organization for Migration (IOM) office in Minsk. The job responsibilities were challenging: promote orderly and humane migration, engage national counterparts and international partners to ensure respect for migrants' rights, and combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking.

Meet Will Cash, 2010 Alum

In 2008 I enrolled in a dual degree program offered by the Patterson School and the Gatton College of Business and Economics. This program made it possible to obtain a Masters degree in Diplomacy and International Commerce and a Masters in Business Administration in just two year's time.

Victor Montgomery Awarded Boren Fellowship

The University of Kentucky Office of Nationally Competitive Awards has announced that UK student Victor Montgomery has received a 2022 David L. Boren Fellowship to study Russian language. Montgomery completed his master’s degree with the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce in 2023.

Emeritus Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Karen Mingst

After 14 years teaching and mentoring dozens of Patterson School students and leading the school, Dr. Karen Mingst retired in December 2016 as Acting Director, Lockwood Chair, and Professor of Political Science at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Mingst’s career included lecturing and teaching short courses in South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Albania, Vietnam, Japan, and the United Nations.
